Fridays with the Fiddle Fig: What to expect after the offer
This week's topic: What to expect after the offer
A big step in buying a home is deciding to write an offer, it can be one of the most exciting and at the same time scariest times of the home buying process. You have been looking at homes for months and have found the "one"! Most buyers don’t know what to expect.
Here are 3 things you can expect when making an offer on a home:
- You can almost always expect the seller to respond to your offer with a counter offer. No matter how great of an offer a buyer makes its almost certain the seller will want to make some adjustments on it. This is typical and nothing to be worried about.
- You may not get a response right away. There are many factors that go into negotiating an offer and it can take some back and forth between listing agents and buyers agents and between agents and their clients. This can take time so no need to stress if a few days pass. If there are multiple offers on a home you can expect this to potentially take longer.
- On that same note once you have found a home worthy of an offer its important to move swiftly to help minimize your chances of being up against multiple offers. Being the only offer on a home gives you a lot more negotiating power.
The home buying process is stressful, its important you are working with someone who helps prepare you for what to expect. Nothing is scarier then the unknown. Make sure you are working with a professional who can guide you through it.
